Open for business: Goldsboro gets high marks for its business climate

Goldsboro residents received good news this week when an independent survey rated the city as one of the 250 best cities in the nation to start a small business.

The rating by LendEDU was based on transportation and utility costs, average household expenditures, average household income, estimated population growth over the next five years and the percentage of the population in the workforce.

The report was released during National Small Business Week and showed Goldsboro to have the infrastructure and workforce in place to strongly support small business development.

Small businesses are the backbone of the United States economy. More than half of all Americans either own or work for a small business. They are the economic engine that drives most local economies.

City officials were quick to point to the investments in downtown Goldsboro as one reason for the high ranking. More than 40 new small businesses have opened downtown in the past few years, with millions of dollars of investment.

It is a good time to open a small business in Goldsboro, and we are pleased to find out that the word has spread. We look forward to continued small business growth here.
