Easter: Remember those who still cannot celebrate the holiday

Today is Easter, the holiest day in the Christian calendar.

For most Christians, it is a day to celebrate Christ's resurrection and the comfort it gives to believers in the faith.

But it should also be a day when we as Americans remember those Christians around the world who are persecuted for their belief. Many cannot openly celebrate the day for fear of reprisal, even death.

It was that way in the ancient world, and unfortunately it is still true in many places around the globe.

So when you go to worship today, don't forget the millions of believers who have to celebrate the day in the shadows, if at all. We have the freedom to choose our own religion and to follow its tenets as we see fit. That is not a right in many countries. Let us hope that the future will bring about more freedom of religion in places where Easter is just another day.
