Trump's speech: New president invokes blessing of God in address

Donald Trump told the American people in his inaugural address Friday that the day represented a victory for the people of the country. The government is not simply transferring power from one administration to another, but taking it from Washington and giving it back to the public, he said.

The new president did not make a special effort to unify a divided nation in his remarks. Trump called for solidarity but offered little in the way of solace for those voters who did not back him in November. He chose instead to reiterate some of his campaign promises, noting that it doesn't matter which party controls the government. What matters, he said, is whether the government is controlled by the people. The "forgotten" people in the country will be forgotten no longer, he vowed.

The new president not only said that the country is guarded by its strong military, he added that it looks to a higher power for strength and protection -- to God. We hope he meant it.
