Cowardly: Break-in at GOP headquarters is a crime against all of us

The criminals who broke into and defaced the Wayne County Republican Party headquarters not only broke the law, they committed a crime against the American way of life.

It was a brazen and cowardly act, one that that deserves the full punishment of the law if the perpetrators are caught and convicted.

It's not that we consider Donald Trump or Ronald Reagan or any other Republican leaders to be worthy of deification. We would say the same thing had the Democratic Party headquarters been so violated.

It is that the crime was committed purely for political reasons -- something we have not come across before. Nothing was stolen, the crime was committed obviously because the individuals simply hate the GOP and the fact that the party's candidate for president won the election.

Not being able to accept defeat in the political arena is foreign to the American way of life. It is the peaceful transfer of power that defines our democracy, and this act of hatred is a crime against our political system -- and therefore against all of us, both Republicans and Democrats alike.
