Electoral College: Proven system of electing president remains best method

We predict that Donald Trump will be elected president of the United States on Monday.

What, you say, are you talking about? Trump was elected back in November.

No. According to this country's Electoral College system, Trump has to be voted upon by representatives of each state -- called electors -- who are pledged to represent how the voters of their state cast their ballots. Then he can rightfully assume the job of president.

The system created by the Founding Fathers is criticized by some, who say it is outdated. They would prefer a simple popular vote.

Had a popular vote been in place in November then Hillary Clinton would be our new president, since she received the largest number of votes nationwide.

We believe the existing system is working just fine. It has served our country well for more than two centuries and should not be tampered with.
