Bell to lead: Wayne County's John Bell chosen House majority leader

State Rep. John Bell's sudden rise to power in the General Assembly is a testament not only to his political smarts but to his natural leadership ability.

A rising star in North Carolina politics, Bell is a local boy who has made good in Raleigh since being first elected to the state House.

His fellow Republicans selected him House majority leader this week, and we believe he will serve both his state and his county well in the role.

Bell, who was recently elected to a third term in the Legislature, served previously as House majority whip and now will take on the added responsibilities that come with his new job.

He has already begun assembling a staff to help him in his new role and said he is looking forward to working with House members on both sides of the aisle to make North Carolina a stronger state economically.

Wayne County has a long history of producing outstanding statewide leaders, and Bell follows in the footsteps of some mighty big names.

We think he is more than up to the job and wish him well in his new position.
