Change of tune: Republicans who disavowed Trump now have tough decision to make

During the presidential campaign, many Republicans broke ranks to oppose the nomination of Donald Trump, who they said was not fit to hold the nation's highest office.

Some openly backed Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Now that Trump has won, these Republicans find themselves in a difficult situation. Many are struggling to come to terms with the results of the election and are having to re-evaluate their position.

Some are having to swallow their pride and go along with the new administration. Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney is a prime example of a Republican who has jumped aboard the Trump train. After calling Trump a phony and a fraud during the campaign, Romney has now changed his tune and is considered a top prospect for a spot in the Trump camp, perhaps as secretary of state.

Will Trump be able to put the harsh words behind him and welcome these former critics into his circle? He is known to harbor grudges, and it might be difficult for him to forget the criticisms.

But it is important for both sides to let the past go. Trump needs qualified people in his administration, and many of the most qualified are former critics who now have to decide whether they will fully support the president-elect or not.
