Thank you: Local residents are indebted to Christ in Action teams

They heard about the distress caused by the flooding and they came, tools in hand.

Dozens of people from out of state have come to Wayne County through the Christ in Action program to help residents here clean up from the flooding spawned by Hurricane Matthew.

We are thankful that they have. Every available hand is welcome at a time like this.

The volunteers say they want to help because their religion calls for them to do something to help when they see others in need.

"We do it because we like people," said one volunteer. "Jesus died for people, and we like people, and we want to be his hands extended in the time of need."

Christ in Action's work includes debris removal, mucking out mud-filled homes, cutting up downed trees and all kinds of repair work. They work mostly with the elderly and those who do not have insurance.

The work they are doing is helping many across the county recover from the flooding, and we thank them for their concern and their hard work.
