School spirit: Dillard-GHS, Central-EWHS understand need to pass it on

It is remarkable how the alumni from Dillard High School/Goldsboro High School and Central High School/Eastern Wayne High School manage to pull off such huge reunions every year.

Other schools must look on with envy when they see or hear about the three- and four-day events that draw thousands of graduates back to Goldsboro to reminisce and fellowship with their classmates. Many come from as far away as Washington, D.C., New York, Philadelphia and even from outside the United States.

What motivates these alumni?

The school spirit instilled in them by their former teachers and principals, who taught them the need to pass along the pride that was fostered during their years at the schools.

Newer generations are now carrying on that spirit and ensuring that future alumni will have the same chances they received by donating thousands of dollars each year for scholarships.

Would that every school had the same sense of pride and accomplishment.
