Final stretch: This week's primaries give Clinton, Trump more of what they need

With the race for the presidential nominations entering the clubhouse turn, there are two distinctly different battles going on.

Tuesday's results gave both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton what they had hoped for -- clear-cut decisions in their favor.

But while Clinton's results put her in the catbird's seat in the Democratic race, Trump's only pushed him closer to winning the Republican nomination outright. He still faces the possibility of a brokered convention where he would have to convince a majority of delegates that he deserves the nomination.

But Trump's sweep of the five states in Tuesday's vote gives him even more reason to push hard to the finish line. He cannot afford to make a slip now if he wants to win the nomination before the convention, but he has shown in recent weeks that he can tone down his rhetoric when need be.

Perhaps he is beginning to understand that money and bombast alone do not a president make.
