Let 'em sue: Law on bathroom accommodations stands on its own merits

It didn't take long for advocates of transgender folks' rights to sue the state over the recent law approved by the General Assembly and Gov. Pat McCrory that prevents local cities and towns from passing laws allowing people to use the public restroom of their gender identity.

North Carolina has come under fire from liberal bastions such as Seattle and New York, who have announced a boycott of the state.

North Carolina should hold firm on this issue.

We have argued in this space that it is only common sense for people to be limited to using the public facilities that correspond to their anatomy. We still believe that.

Threats of boycotts by cities should not sway our leaders. Some left-leaning corporations also have called for a boycott of North Carolina.

Let 'em.

There are some things that should not be up for debate, and this is one of them.

What about parents who take their child to a public restroom? Don't they have rights, too?

This all will be resolved, no doubt, in the most expensive manner -- with lots of legal wrangling that will be paid for by the taxpayers, and the eventual construction of "third party" accommodations.
