In good hands: Brenda Robinson has the talent and drive to move Relay for Life forward

The Wayne County Relay for Life is in good hands.

The American Cancer Society has hired veteran volunteer organizer Brenda Robinson to manage the event, and she has vowed to keep the annual cancer-fighting festival going strong.

The Relay for Life is a nationwide event, held to raise money for anti-cancer research. In Wayne County, it has become an annual rite of spring, with businesses, churches, clubs and civic groups putting on a show that starts on Friday evening and runs on until Saturday morning. It has raised millions of dollars for research since its modest inception in 1990.

For years, the Wayne County relay was rated as the No. 1 such event in North Carolina. It has dwindled a bit in the past few years, but Mrs. Robinson says she plans to work hard to bring back its luster.

This year's relay will be held May 20-21 at the Wayne County fairgrounds.

See you there.
