Turnout: More people than usual seem to be heading toward the polls

Turnout is the key to most any election, and today's is likely no exception.

And with warm temperatures and little or no chance of rain in the forecast, Wayne County residents can be expected to cast their ballots in near record numbers.

Thousands of people have already voted in Wayne, and the die might already have been cast in some elections. But don't let that dissuade you from voting if you haven't already. Many an election has been won, or lost, in the final hours.

Interestingly enough, the much decried requirement to show a photo identification in order to cast a ballot doesn't seem to have had much of an effect on turnout. Thousands of Wayne County residents have already voted, and there has been only one incident of note -- and that person apparently intended to make a scene.

Polls opened at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m.
