Praise deserved: Accomplishments of retiring mayor attest to his love for his city

Former Goldsboro Mayor Al King was recognized Monday night for his dedicated service to the city and its residents for nearly 15 years.

It was an honor well deserved.

We have mentioned King's leadership in a previous editorial.

But it wasn't enough for a man whose list of accomplishments deserves more accolades.

King deserves credit for many positive things that were accomplished on his watch.

None stand out more than the rebuilding of the Paramount Theatre after it was destroyed by fire. Or the completion of the downtown Streetscape project that promises a new day for the heart of the city.

And King also has earned a pat on the back for his work in securing the safety of Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. A former Air Force officer himself, he has spared no pains in seeing to it that the base remains in Goldsboro.

So this editorial is written simply to praise a man who put the welfare of others before himself, year after year, and who now can take a seat on the sidelines knowing he has accomplished his mission.

A job well done, Mr. King.
