ID next year? Identification not the real issue; getting people out to vote is.

Get ready, the stir over requiring voter identification is getting ready to heat up.

Truth is, the furor will end up being much ado about nothing.

Bottom line is that getting people to the polls seems to be the most pressing issue that this country faces.

Nothing could be more discouraging than the realization that not even 10 percent of the eligible voters in Goldsboro decided who will be the city's next mayor. A much lower percentage than that decided some of the council races.

And here's a news flash: They did not stay at home in protest of being asked for an ID -- they simply did not care enough to get out and vote.

How sad.

And the general election is not going to be much better next year -- only a percentage of eligible voters will come out then, too.

Fixing America is about more than making voting easier.

It is about fixing apathy -- and that is a much tougher task, for sure.
