Help our fair: It doesn't take much to support Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair

It was a bad run of luck.

Who would have thought so many of the first few days of the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair would be destroyed by rain and wind.

Lamb, goat and market hog shows, gone.

No Wicked Bulls.

A midway that could only open for a few hours here and there.

It would be easy to be a little down in the dumps if you were fair manager Eddie Pitzer and the rest of his volunteers and staff.

But hold on. It is not over just yet.

There is still time for big things at the county fair -- and a chance to recoup a little bit of the lost revenue that allows the county to have fairs every year.

And we can help.

There are four more days of the fair.

Put your family in the car and come on out and see what all these people worked so hard to get ready for their community.

Enjoy dinner at one of the booths staffed by nonprofit groups raising funds for their community efforts -- they suffered, too, because of the weather. Grab a caramel apple, some cotton candy and a turkey leg and then spend some time with the rides and games.

And on Thursday, come see the ponies, mules and horses of all shapes and sizes.

This is our chance to say thank you to the people who give so much to put this event together each year.

You get to do something nice for your community -- and you get to eat an apple jack, elephant ear and a sausage dog, with no guilt.
