Easy 'yea': Sometimes there is no question which is right way to vote

This one is a no-brainer.

There is absolutely no reason that anyone, anywhere should have a problem with a one percent increase in the hotel tax for all of Wayne County.

We understand that some people might be incensed about raising taxes -- although those who seem to be against the measure are puzzling -- but this is not just a tax hike.

This is an investment in the future of this county -- and one that, for once, benefits the whole county, especially the portion that benefits from the agriculture industry.

A new agriculture and convention center brings in revenue -- that is money that can be used for the betterment of this community. When the community benefits, businesses -- and colleges -- benefit.

And that is exactly what we all should want for Wayne County.

The bottom line is that often, when governments assess more taxes, the impact hits squarely on businesses and property owners.

The money that is gleaned is assessed to vague uses -- not to a specific project designed to improve the living conditions of the community and to offer residents something new.

That is not the case this time. Both the sports complex and the ag/convention center will benefit all of us -- and the money raised will be a reasonable and not too taxing assessment.

The Senate needs to get this bill passed.

It is not the wanton taxing most people hate.

It is a tax with a purpose.
