Heat thanks: It is not easy working in the heat

As most of us sit in air-conditioned offices and homes, we might not think about those whose jobs do not allow them the luxury.

From city and county workers to emergency personnel like police, firefighters and EMS workers, there is no relief when an emergency call comes in or when there is work to be done.

And those are just a few of the people whose work won't wait until the temperatures drop.

So as we look forward to another week or so of scalding temperatures, perhaps we should take the time to acknowledge those who are pushing their way through some pretty hot day.

A kind word -- or a glass of ice water -- might just be appreciated as they try to keep themselves safe while protecting their community and making sure it runs smoothly.

A thank you is certainly the least we can do.
