Heat watch: It is not worth the risk. Take heat seriously.

It would seem to go without saying: Don't play around with 100-degree temperatures.

But sure as you are reading this, there will be someone who thinks that the laws of nature do not apply to them.

So that is why we have to watch out for each other, especially this week.

Keep an eye out for children who have overdone it and for senior citizens who might be having trouble but who do not want to admit it.

Check on your neighbors or that animal who lives next door. They might be in distress and not have any way of getting help.

And please, no matter how short the trip, do not leave a child or an animal in a car. And if you see someone else doing it, report it immediately. A couple careless minutes could result in a real tragedy.

There are still a few more days of searing heat in our future. If we watch ourselves and care for each other, we will make it just fine.

But no matter what we do, one thing is for certain: Our air conditioners will have a tough week.
