Downtown: Bistro's expansion sign of good things ahead

We know that there are some people who are not so sure about the money being spent on refurbishing Goldsboro's downtown.

And we also know that the experience of running a business downtown is not always easy -- just as it is tough for most small businesses to get on their feet and to stay there.

But the news of the success of two restaurants downtown -- and the announcement that one of them is expanding -- as well some of the good news from other businesses in the area, suggest something.

A renaissance for downtown Goldsboro might be just within our grasp.

Ed's Southern Food and Spirits has turned into a thriving downtown hot spot -- joining several other successful ventures, including Uniquely R's, Ice Storm, The Laughing Owl and The Flying Shamrock.

Now, JoJo's Bistro has added a new bar -- and an evening menu -- giving residents another choice for an evening on the town.

And that is good news for all of us.

A thriving downtown takes more than just new streets and renovated buildings. It also requires business owners and the community to take a chance.

These recent investments suggest that perhaps there might be reason to consider even more for the area -- and that maybe a new formula for success is in the making.

So, raise a glass to JoJo's new addition and keep your eyes peeled -- there might be even more reason to head downtown soon.
