Beat cancer: The best way to save a life is to get that checkup

This is the month when we talk about breast cancer.

And throughout Wayne County, you will see pink ribbons, benefits to help find a cure as well as expressions of support for those battling the disease.

And while the stories of those fighting breast cancer are inspirational -- these women (and some men) are heroes and role models of courage -- there is an important message to take away from all that you will read and see this month about the fight against breast cancer.

Information and prevention save lives.

That's it. Period. Bottom line.

Of course, there are other factors, but there are many, many lives that have been saved because a patient wasn't sure and had a suspicious lump checked.

We plan to share some advice from the experts this weekend.

But as we do, we ask you to get checked -- man or woman, young or old.

Your life -- or the life of someone you love -- is much too precious to do anything else.
