Stop flights: It is inconceivable that no airline bans are in place

There are times when there simply is not time for a debate.

There is not time to think about political correctness or to wonder what political implications a decision might have.

You just have to act, and to act quickly.

And in the case of the airline flights from Ebola-ravaged West Africa, the answer should be simple.

They should be stopped now.

And just as a Texas judge has issued an official order making sure those who are on Ebola watch are not boarding planes and understand what "quarantine" means, so, too, should others who are in charge of keeping this country safe.

The reality is that this Ebola problem has taken this nation by surprise. And the people who seem the most surprised are the Centers for Disease Control and its boss, Dr. Thomas Frieden.

They were not ready to handle such a problem -- and they are not giving the proper directions to the local hospitals and other agencies who now must manage this deadly disease.

And now, because of that, we have more Ebola infections -- and a nurse who was told she could get on a plane with a fever.

The ban is a first step. A plan needs to be in place sooner rather than later and training widespread.

This is not a time for wait and see.
