Welcome back: There are plenty of heroes in school buildings

We all know that teachers change lives, but they are not the only ones who make a difference in the school days of Wayne County children.

In addition to those who stand at the blackboard, or white board these days, there are hundreds of janitors, bus drivers, secretaries, cafeteria workers, school resource officers and administrators. There are also volunteers, tutors and teaching assistants, without whom the school day would be more difficult.

As we thank those who teach our children, we should remember these other professionals as well.

They are charged with making sure students have a safe ride to school, that they have a nutritious breakfast and lunch and that they are in a clean and safe environment.

They do not always get the attention they deserve, but they are a vital part of the school day. And they deserve a "thank you," too.
