A role model: LeBron James' classy message a model for others in pro sports

It is still about the money. In professional sports, it always is.

But LeBron James' commentary on why he decided to return to Cleveland says something about who he is, not just as a basketball player, but as a man.

He wants to bring a championship home, sure. But he also wants to be a role model for the young people in his hometown and to lure other young professionals back home.

He feels a calling to be there for the area that supported him. He wants to raise his family there, and to be near his friends and extended family as well.

He got the big dollars he deserved. So, he won't be making a sacrifice to return home, but if even half of what he said in his comments is true, he has made making a difference part of his new job in Cleveland.

In a world where we read every day about spoiled brat pros whose only focus is a paycheck, and whose behavior is nothing short of criminal, it is nice to watch a young man grow up and realize, it is not just about a ring anymore.

The Cavaliers are lucky to get James. He will be a game changer.

And Cleveland is lucky to get a young man who has set his sights on helping his city. It might just be amazing to see what he accomplishes on court and off.
