Behind that cap: Parents deserve some credit for their children's success
We spend so much time as a society complaining about the bad jobs some parents are doing with the responsibility of raising a child.
Today is a day for a "shout-out" to those who do just the opposite.
Behind every one of the young men and women who collected diplomas this week -- and those who will do so in June -- is a mom, a dad or both who have been instrumental in getting them to that graduation stage.
Sometimes it takes a little pushing. Sometimes it just takes being there. But there is no question -- getting a teenager through high school is not easy.
So as the members of the Class of 2014 toss their caps, the parents who are sitting in the stands should give themselves a little cheer.
Without their love and support, those newly minted graduates would have a different story to tell.
So, congratulations parents of the Class of 2014. You did it.
