Our duty: 'Band of Brothers' death reminder we should treasure heroes

It is not something that we think about often -- even if we never lose our respect for what they accomplished.

Every time a member of the Greatest Generation dies, we wonder, "Will there ever be heroes and stories like that again?"

There have been since and there will be more.

But when we lose one of the men who fought so valiantly so many decades ago, it should remind us of the importance of telling their stories and preserving their memory.

They were an inspiration, not only Easy Company, but the thousands of men who volunteered to head overseas to defend against evil -- with little regard for their own safety or what they might lose.

Their lives are the stuff of legend.

And it is our duty to make sure they are never, ever forgotten.
