They are the businesses that donate when there is a benefit planned in town.

They are the ones who sponsor the Little League teams and who write checks when there is a need.

They give merchandise, gift certificates and cash to causes all over town.

And this Christmas is the time for all of us to remember to say thanks.

As you begin your Christmas shopping this year, take the time to visit some of the locally owned shops in the community. They have unique gift ideas and plenty of bargains that will make any Santa jolly.

And best of all, you are not just saving gas, you are paying it forward to honor all these businesses do to support this community.

The official shop local day is the Saturday after Thanksgiving. But why wait?

There is plenty to discover right here in town -- and you can enjoy a nice dinner out, too, as you help make your local economy stronger.

Sure seems like a win-win.
