Warning sign: The entitlement program is broken, and we will all pay the price

It was a scary commentary on the extent to which greed and dishonesty have taken over the food stamp entitlement program.

But it should not have been that much of a surprise to anyone who has made a trip to a local store lately.

Truth is, there are plenty of people taking advantage of the program that is meant to provide food to feed hungry Americans -- and plenty of stores that seem to look the other way.

When the food stamp glitch allowed some shoppers to buy without limits, they did not fill their carts with food. They grabbed whatever they could find -- including expensive electronics.

Some commentators have suggested that these were desperate people who saw a chance to help their families and took it.

Baloney.

These were thieves with no morals, no honor code and no sense of right or wrong. They saw a chance to cheat a system they believe owes them -- and they took it.

So from whom were they stealing? That's right -- their fellow Americans.

Think there is no danger in expanding the social welfare class in America? Think there is no reason to talk about better controls, better checks? Think there is no reason to force people to consider standing on their own two feet rather than depending on handouts?

Just think about that Walmart run and see if your answers are the same.
