Egypt watch: Trouble in Middle East is never good for U.S. interests

Why in the world should you care about the fighting, the bloodshed and the unrest that has become a regular story out of Egypt during the past few weeks?

Sure, you can feel for the people and wonder about the protests and the government reaction, but why else?

After all, don't we have enough to worry about?

The stories out of Cairo and other locations in the country are important for a simple reason -- discord, especially violent discord, in the Middle East spreads like wildfire.

And in addition to the fact that Egypt has been one of the U.S.'s best allies, and an important stabilizing force in the region, it is right next door to Israel.

And most of us know what happens if radical elements think they might have the chance to make trouble across that border.

You should care about the Egypt reports not just because of the human tragedy, but because of what instability in the region could create.

And it is also important to let your leaders in Washington know that you are watching and you are concerned.

There are tough decisions ahead.

And this time, serious action might need to be taken before it is too late.
