Time to care: United Way's effort begins this week

It doesn't have to be a big production.

Offer a helping hand to a neighbor, pick up trash at the local park, donate some food to a food pantry or simply join in on one of the many service projects that are taking place around the community this week.

Being a part of the United Way's Days of Caring simply requires that you give a little of yourself to help someone else. And it is surprising just how good that sort of effort can make you feel.

The United Way will kick off its 2013 campaign this week with a special performance by Elvis impersonator Stephen Freeman at the Paramount. Also on the playbill are musicians the Malpass Brothers and Samantha Casey and the Bluegrass Jam.

The idea is to get the community involved and ready to do its part to help those who need them.

And Days of Caring is the perfect kickoff.

So, head on out there and do a good deed -- big or small, simple or complex. And if you like, post a picture on our Facebook page sharing what you and your family or co-workers decided to do.

United Way is a community effort to improve the lives of Wayne County residents -- and it has done so for decades.

This is your chance to join in on the fun.
