Earnings watch: Forget the rosy economic talk

If we had a dollar for every government mouthpiece who proclaims that the economy is better and Americans are more confident, it would be and they would be.

But the truth is that this week's revised outlooks and less-than-solid profits for many of the nation's biggest retailers suggest that perhaps the country might not be ready to buy into the rosy outlook -- at least not yet.

Stimulating the local and national economy is critical. And attracting more investment to North Carolina through attractive incentive packages is a very important goal for the remainder of 2013 and into 2014.

Because the bottom line is, hundreds of thousands of new jobs sounds good -- but not when most of them are part-time.

And analysis by talking heads that the economy is recovering is great -- but not when you watch every price in the grocery store increase.

There is a lot of work left to do to fix the nation's economy. Perhaps that -- and not his golf game -- is what the president should be working on now.
