It is something most of us don't think about. After all, we might assume, doesn't every child have what he or she needs to start school right?

But the truth is that getting school clothes and supplies is an expense some local families struggle with each year -- and often children go back to school without the tools they need.

We thank all of you who have already participated in our annual Stuff the Bus campaign. Because of your efforts, Communities in Schools will be able to help hundreds of needy children get the start they need to succeed.

But let's say you couldn't make it today -- or you were waiting for a weekend shopping trip. There is still time to help.

Pick up a couple extra items as you are doing your shopping this weekend and drop off your donation at the News-Argus office on Berkeley Boulevard next week. We will make sure it gets to the Communities in Schools program.

You would be shocked at how much small things mean to these youngsters -- a new binder, a backpack -- or even notebooks and pencils.
