Good news: Development in county sign of better times

Another day, another announcement of a new business choosing Wayne County -- or actually announcing its grand opening ceremony.

And while there are still questions about the decisions being made by the current slate of county commissioners, and their possible effect on the future of the community, the news that businesses are taking a look at this county is nothing short of encouraging.

Now, all we have to do is to keep it going.

Businesses look for available work force, a prospering and growing community and favorable costs and tax rates. They also look at statistics, stability and leadership. And a quality living environment for their employees doesn't hurt either.

Based on the work of those who have led this county to this point, there seem to be more than a few people who think things are going well here -- and that this is a community worth investing in for the future.

That says something about where we should go from here.

Smart budgets, wise spending and investing where it makes sense will only make us stronger.

Let's hope that is Job 1 on county officials' agenda this year.
