Squeaky wheel: Eastern North Carolina needs to keep interests at forefront

You know the old saying right? The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

That advice will serve the new Wayne County delegation -- as well as some of the other representatives and senators who will be taking part in the dealings of this year's General Assembly -- well.

If we want the new governor and the new legislature to remember the needs of Eastern North Carolina, someone has to speak up. Fortunately, we have elected people to do just that.

The problem with this area and Raleigh is that there seems to be an "out of sight, out of the plans" mentality.

Getting the attention and funding we deserve requires legislators with one goal in mind -- visibility.

So, this year, let's hope that those who will represent Wayne County, as well as others in this region, will band together to make their voices and the region's needs heard.

Today is the first step of the journey to remind Raleigh that there are important parts of the state below the beltline.

Now, all we have to do is make sure they remember.
