Still time to read: Even after event is over, there's still time to read a good book.

We find every excuse these days -- kids are too busy, we are too tired, there are just not enough hours in the day -- anything we can do to avoid sitting down with a good book.

And in some cases, it is true, we are busier and there are other demands on our time.

But how sad that so many of us simply have stopped taking the time to share the pleasure of a good book.

Many of the movies we enjoy today started out as books -- and while they are spectacular on the screen, they are even better when the imagery and story line are manifested in words.

So what do we do? Give up?

The Wayne County Reads committee is hoping that you won't and that this month, you will pick up a science fiction classic, "Fahrenheit 451," and remember just how much fun it is to read.

But if this week is a no-go or if science fiction is just not your thing, do not despair -- there are still plenty of options to choose from in your local library.

Grab a book of any kind -- and one to read with your children while you are it -- and carve out a little bit of time each day to enjoy a trip somewhere else, if only for a little while.

Reading is chance to not only expand your mind, but your horizons. It is a simple pleasure that we should do everything we can to preserve.
