Mariana Garcia of Raleigh and Cody Clark Shipman of Raleigh exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Dec. 31 at 6 p.m. at Saint Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. Alex Gonzalez officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Gilbert J. Garcia Jr. of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of Guadalupe Olivo Garcia and the late Gilbert J. Garcia Sr. of San Antonio, Texas, the late Gen. Brig. Jesús Roberto of Mexico City, Mexico, and Virginia Valdés Mendoza of Aguascalientes, Mexico.

The bride is a Goldsboro native and a graduate of Eastern Wayne High School. In 2008, she graduated from North Carolina State University with dual bachelor degrees in textile apparel management and Spanish. She is currently studying to be a nurse at WTCC.

The groom is the son of Jane Clark Shipman of Wilmington and Mr. and Mrs. Brian S. Shipman of Rocky Mount and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Shipman Sr. of Keyser, W. Va., and the late Rev. and Mrs. John K. Clark of Halifax, Va.

He is from Manteo, N.C. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 2006. He is pursuing his MBA at North Carolina State University. He is employed as a mechanical engineer at Caterpillar.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore her mother’s wedding dress and family lace mantilla. The dress was an ivory silk sweetheart dress with an organza overlay with short sleeves, a boat neck and a jeweled belt. The bride carried a clutch-style bouquet of white roses accented with eucalyptus and lambs ear.

Denise Garcia Barnett of Garner, sister of the bride, served as matron of honor, while Elisa Iliana Garcia of Houston, Texas, sister of the bride, was maid of honor.

Her bridesmaid was Kelsey Elise Pettitt, sister of the groom, of Clayton.

Ian Falkenberg of Gloucester, Va., childhood friend of the groom, served as best man.

Groomsmen were David Bentley of Raleigh and Jon Pettitt of Clayton.

Ushers were Miles Shipman, brother of the groom, and Jose Julio Guijarro III, cousin of the bride.

Carole Sears directed the wedding. Leslie Resnick and Tiffani Vines, friends of the couple, distributed programs.

Readings were by Christina Guijarro of Houston, Texas, Marisa Guijarro of Arlington, Va., Natalia Batiz-Blanco of Campbell, Calif., and Margaret Guijarro of Raleigh, N.C., all cousins of the bride.

Music for the ceremony was provided by violinist Paige Barwick and harpist Andrea Blanchfield.

The bride’s parents hosted the reception at Walnut Creek Country Club.

The rehearsal dinner was hosted by the Shipman family at the Arts Council of Wayne County.

Other wedding events included an engagement party May 2 hosted by family friends at Maxwell Fun Farm, and a bridal shower Sept. 12 hosted by Hunter Arnett, Jacqueline Capasso, Meghan Hadley, Georgia Hill and Leslie Resnick in Raleigh.

After the wedding, they will reside in Raleigh.
