Mrs. Bracewell

Dr. Sarah Murphy Compton of Goldsboro and Dr. Stephen Michael Bracewell of Charlotte exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony June 6, 2015, at 4 o'clock at Madison Avenue Baptist Church, with Dr. Bob Fulkerson officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. Paul Edison and Mrs. Ann Murphy Compton of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of Mrs. Carolyn LaPrade Compton and the late Dr. John Wallace Compton of Goldsboro and Mr. Edgar Earl Murphy and the late Mrs. Phoebe Herring Murphy of Goldsboro.

She graduated magna cum laude from North Carolina State University with Bachelor of Science degrees in biology, microbiology and genetics. She is a recent graduate of the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, and will be completing training in internal medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina.

The groom is the son of Dr. Gregory Bracewell and Mrs. Houda Rizk of Charlotte and the grandson of Mr. Roy Bracewell and the late Mrs. Jean Evans Bracewell of Dublin, Ga., and Mrs. Soumaya Rizk and the late Mr. Nassif Elias Rizk of Charlotte.

He graduated with distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. He is a recent graduate of the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, and will be completing training in urologic surgery at Thomas Jefferson University.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore a beautiful custom English net beaded ballgown by New York designer, Victoria Nicole. It featured a graceful sweetheart neckline with a beautifully structured bodice accented with pearls and crystals.

Her gown was accompanied by a Toni Federici chapel-length veil, which was complemented with a pearl tiara worn by her maternal grandmother on her wedding day.

She also wore an antique brooch that belonged to her maternal great grandmother on the bodice.

She carried a free-style bouquet of blush pink peonies, white roses, white cymbidium orchids, green spider mums and bells of Ireland.

Mrs. Anna Frances Compton Hodges of Washington, cousin of the bride, served as matron of honor, while Miss Ashley Lauren Kemp of Columbia, S.C., was maid of honor.

Bridesmaids were Mrs. Mary Catherine Bero of Winston-Salem; Miss Susana Lea Bracewell of Chapel Hill, sister of the groom; Dr. Sarah Norris Dalrymple of Charlottesville, Va.; and Dr. Kaylan Elizabeth Edwards of Greenville.

Dr. Gregory Bracewell served as best man.

Groomsmen were Dr. Benjamin Scott Robey of Chapel Hill; Mr. Samuel Aaron Glaubiger of Chapel Hill; Mr. Stefan Nicholas Kalczynski of Raleigh; Mr. George Mawardi of Greenville; and Mr. Samuel Everett Rabhan Jr. of Goldsboro, cousin of the bride.

Mrs. Allison Pridgen directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Miss Kelly Elizabeth Price of Goldsboro.

Miss Harriet Alden Pridgen of Winston-Salem was vocalist. Mr. David Periconi was organist. Scripture was read by Dr. Dylan Joseph Suttle of Charlottesville, Va.

Following the ceremony, the bride's parents hosted a reception at the Laughing Owl Restaurant. Guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Everett Rabhan of Goldsboro.

After a wedding trip to Savannah, Ga., the couple will be completing residency training in Charleston, S.C., and Philadelphia, Pa.

Events held before the wedding included a bridesmaids' luncheon given by Mrs. Lynn Rabhan, Mrs. Marsha Compton and Mrs. Betty Barnes June 5 in the home of the bride's aunt, Mrs. Lynn Rabhan; a kitchen and recipe shower held in Goldsboro given by friends of the bride; a pottery shower April 10 at the Painted Peacock in Greenville given by Kaylan Edwards; a luncheon and shower April 11 at Piper Glen Country Club in Charlotte given by the groom's family, Mrs. Houda Bracewell, Miss Susana Bracewell and Mrs. Soumaya Rizk; and a bachelorette night held in Raleigh hosted by Mrs. Anna Frances Hodges, Miss Ashley Kemp and the bridesmaids.

The groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner June 5 at Walnut Creek Country Club. A dessert party after the rehearsal dinner was given by Mrs. Mailande Schrum, Mrs. Carolyn Compton and Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Schrum in the home of Mrs. Mailande Schrum.
