Uzzell-Jones
Dr. Kamala Latori Uzzell of Durham and Adrian Tremayne Jones of Durham exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony May 31, 2014, at 5 p.m. at Union Baptist Church in Durham, N.C., with the Rev. Kenneth R. Hammond officiating.
The bride is the daughter of James Pete and Melba Smith Uzzell of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of the late Pete and Dora Kornegay Uzzell of Goldsboro and the late Earl and Mildred Best Smith of Goldsboro.
The bride is a high school graduate of Eastern Wayne High School in Goldsboro, N.C. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, N.C., where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication studies. Additionally, she attended Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C., where she earned a Master of Arts degree in agency counseling before attending North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C., where she earned a Doctorate of Philosophy degree in counselor education.
She is a psychotherapist and the owner of SOLAY Counseling and Research Center P.C. and an adjunct professor of mental health counseling at Campbell University.
The groom is the son of Alexander Lee and Linda McNeil Jones of Durham and the grandson of the late Willie and Elise Jones of Durham and the late Robert and Mavella McNeil of Tabor City.
The groom is a high school graduate of Southern Durham High School in Durham, N.C. He attended North Carolina Central University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in recreational therapy. He is currently enrolled in the Master’s of School Administration program at North Carolina Central University.
Additionally, he is employed at North Carolina Central University as an assistant football coach.
The bride was escorted by her father, Mr. James P. Uzzell, and given in marriage by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James P. Uzzell.
The bride wore an ivory Vera Wang strapless, soft sweetheart, full A-line gown with a draped wrap bodice and a swirling frothy draped skirt with delicately asymmetrical tulle layers. She wore a Vera Wang cathedral-length raw-edge ivory tulle veil, and carried a lovely lush bouquet composed of white peonies accented with blush spray roses and touches of accents of mini green hydrangea and ivy foliage, which was finished with a wrap of double-faced ivory satin.
Mrs. Kahni Ward Uzzell of South Riding, Va., sister-in-law of the bride, served as matron of honor, while bridesmaids were Ms. Crystal Jones of Durham, sister of the groom; Ms. Regina Jones of Durham, sister of the groom; Mrs. Euba Wilkerson McKoy of Durham, cousin of the bride; Mrs. Teshor Jones Oates of Holly Springs, N.C, childhood friend of the bride; and Ms. Lillie Peebles, Esq. of Raleigh, N.C., sorority sister of the bride.
Mr. Colon Oliver III of Greensboro, N.C., college roommate of the groom, served as best man.
Groomsmen were Mr. Michael Jones of Durham, brother of the groom; Mr. Kenyatta Uzzell of South Riding, Va., brother of the bride; Mr. Brian Williams of Atlanta, Ga., cousin of the groom; Mr. Christopher Williams of Portales, N.M., cousin of the groom; and Mr. Darry Williams of Durham, cousin of the groom.
Ushers were Mr. Jason Evans, Mr. Montaze McRae and Mr. Timothy Pittman all of Durham and all fraternity brothers of the groom, and Mr. Lynwood Smith of Creedmoor, N.C., cousin of the groom.
Miss Kamila Jacinta Uzzell of South Riding, Va., niece of the bride, was flower girl.
Master Joshua Luke Wilkerson of Durham, cousin of the bride, was ringbearer.
Erin McLean Events designed, coordinated and directed the wedding.
Presiding at the register were Ms. Deremia Johnson of Knightdale, N.C., college friend of the bride. and Ms. Dionne Moore of Durham, sorority sister of the bride.
Ms. Camille Braxton of Wake Forest, N.C., sorority sister of the bride, and Ms. Kameshia Mitchell of Durham, friend of the bride and groom, distributed programs.
Hostesses were Mrs. Valarie Taveras of Brooklyn, N.Y., sorority sister of the bride, and Ms. Stephanie Williams of Durham, childhood and college friend of the bride
Dr. Donna Chandler Kornegay of Durham was the ceremony reader.
A program of wedding music was provided by Mr. Terrell Smith, pianist; Elegant Ensembles, String Quartet and Trumpeter; and Ms. Verna Best and Mrs. Renita Allen Dawson, vocalists.
Following the ceremony, a cocktail hour and reception were held at Bay 7 on the American Tobacco Campus in Durham, with catering by the Angus Barn of Raleigh, N.C. Dr. Earl Moore was the master of ceremonies.
After a wedding trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands and Miami, Fla., the couple resides in Durham.
On the eve of the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Shiki Sushi in Durham. The bride and groom chose this time to present gifts of appreciation to their wedding attendants.
Events before the wedding included an engagement party Sept. 21, 2013, at the University Club in Durham, hosted by the parents of the bride; a bridal brunch Jan. 18, 2014, at the Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club in Durham hosted by the bride’s mother; a bachelor weekend March 13 through 16, 2014, in Atlanta, Ga., hosted by the groomsmen and friends of the groom; a bachelorette weekend March 13 through 16, 2014, in Charleston, S.C., hosted by bridesmaids and friends of the bride; a “soror soiree” bridal shower, March 22, 2014, in Durham, hosted by sorority sisters of the bride; a “Love Jones Affair” couple’s wedding shower April 12, 2014, in Durham hosted by the wedding party; a garden Jack and Jill shower May 3, 2014, at the home of the bride’s parents in Goldsboro hosted by Mrs. Henrietta Best, Mrs. Betty Parker and Mrs. Shirley Suggs, aunt of the bride; and a welcome soiree the eve of the wedding after the rehearsal dinner hosted by the bride’s parents for out-of-town guests and friends in the rotunda of Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club in Durham.
