Laura Kristina Whitfield of Greenville and James Hunter Shearer of Greenville exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony May 3, 2014, at 5 p.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Adam Seate officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Al and Joy Beth Whitfield of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of the late Aldine and Eunice Whitfield of Mount Olive and Christine Batten and the late Willie Batten of Four Oaks.

She is a 2010 graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She is currently enrolled in the Masters of Science in Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner program at East Carolina University. Expected graduation is July 2015. She is employed as a registered nurse at Vidant Medical Center.

The groom is the son of Darryl and Cindy Shearer of Wilson and Joni and Gary McFatter of Goldsboro and the grandson of the late James and Mary Veniel Shearer of Jacksonville, Joyce Pennell of Clayton and the late Hunter Pennell of Clayton.

He attended East Carolina University and Wayne Community College. He is employed as assistant service manager at Hastings Ford in Greenville, N.C.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

The bride wore an ivory fit and flare Allure wedding gown. Layers of lace were embellished throughout the dress. It featured a sweetheart strapless neckline. Ivory pearl embellished the veil. Her flowers were a mixture of ivory and pink peonies and ivory hydrangeas. Her bouquet was wrapped in lace from her mother’s wedding gown and pinned with an antique brooch from her late paternal grandmother.

Mrs. Emily Snipes of Winston-Salem served as matron of honor, while bridesmaids were Ms. Mallory Albertson of Raleigh, Mrs. Jessica Kimbrell of Goldsboro, Ms. Melissa Stansell of Goldsboro, Miss Sharon Ireland of Greenville, N.C., Mrs. Lynn Smith of Lillington, N.C., and Miss Sara Whitfield of Greenville, N.C.

Mr. Darryl Shearer and Mr. Trevor Shearer served as best men.

Groomsmen were Mr. Jason Pyle, Mr. Christopher Bass, Mr. Timothy Bass, Mr. Joel Rose and Mr. James Brogden all of Goldsboro.

Miss Hailey Whitfield and Miss Sydney Whitfield were flower girls.

Ms. Mary Ann Dudley directed the wedding. Presiding at the register were Mrs. Ashley Whittington, Mrs, Donna Boyd and Ms. Amber Perry.

Ceremony coordinator was Mrs. Nancy Reeves.

A program of wedding music was provided by Mrs. Bess Edwards-Sawyer, pianist and organist; Mrs. Jennifer Heim, violinist; Mr. Douglas Tart, trumpeter; and Miss Blair Mozingo and Mr. Jay Kornegay, vocalists.

Alcoytes were Jonathon Peacock and Benjamin Peacock. “Blessing of the Hands” was read by Mrs. Olivia Pierce, aunt of the bride.

A reception hosted by the brides’s parents was held at Walnut Creek Country Club in Goldsboro, N.C. Reception director was Shelby Benton. Reception greeters were Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Whitfield and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Whitfield, uncles and aunts of the bride.

After a honeymoon to Negril, Jamaica, the couple resides in Greenville, N.C.

A rehearsal dinner hosted by the groom’s parents, Gary and Joni McFatter and Darryl and Cindy Shearer, was held at the Laughing Owl Restaurant in Goldsboro.

Events held before the wedding included a Christmas shower hosted by Shelby Benton and Mallory Albertson; a couples shower hosted by Jessica Kimbrell, Melissa Stansell and Lynn Smith; a shower hosted by friends of the bride at St. Luke Church; a shower hosted by family of the bride at Stewart’s Chapel Church in Four Oaks; a dinner given by Lois Rains and family, Mary Ann Dudley and Jennifer Wright at the Village Steakhouse; a bridal luncheon hosted by Mrs. Teresa Bryant, Mrs. Olivia Pierce, Mrs. Ilene Whitfield and Mrs. Susan Whitfield, aunts of the bride, at Goldsboro Country Club; a bachelorette party in Charleston, S.C.; and a bachelor party in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
