Karen Spence Benton and Preston Lee Vernon exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony May 4, 2013, at 4 p.m. at Daniels Memorial United Methodist Church, with pastor Larry Massey officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Kenneth Ronald and Terry Spence Benton of LaGrange and the granddaughter of Virginia Benton and the late Harold Benton of LaGrange and Mary Spence and the late Carroll Spence of Kinston.

Karen is a graduate of Eastern Wayne High School and East Carolina University. She is currently in graduate school at East Carolina University to become an adult nurse practitioner. She is employed as a registered nurse at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The groom is the son of Ronnie Lee and Tracy Lynn Vernon of Pikeville and the grandson of the late Raymond and Carrie Nichols of Pikeville and Earl and Sarah Jones of Pikeville.

Preston is a graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School and Wayne Community College. He is employed as an HVAC technician at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore a strapless sweetheart neckline gown of lustrous ivory satin featuring a ruched bodice. A fully beaded belt accented the natural waistline. Satin-covered buttons flowed into a chapel length train.

Her one-tiered fingertip tulle illusion veil was decorated with crystals, rhinestones, silver bugles and pearls. She wore a headband of rhinestones and crystals. The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of white miniature calla lilies, coral gerbera daisies, green hypericum berries and green dianthus.

Brittany Vinson Jones and Megan Matthews Kornegay served as matrons of honor, while bridesmaids were Caroline Spence Belmore, Meagan Jackson Bourgeois, Morgan Parks Jackson, Courtney Elizabeth Spence and Hannah Elizabeth Vernon.

Ronnie Lee Vernon served as best man.

Groomsmen were David Spence Benton, Joshua Matthew Carter, Felix Harold Jones, Hunter Elliot Jones, Jeremiah David Newsome and Edward Alex Raper.

Karen Rains directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Courtney Chewning Keesee. Erinn Marie Latta and Jessica McCullen Misenhelder distributed programs.

A program of wedding music was provided by Rich Holder, pianist, and Blake Holder and Majesty York, vocalists.

The bride’s parents hosted the reception at Walnut Creek Country Club. Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Vinson greeted guests.

After a wedding trip to Riviera Maya, the couple resides in Goldsboro, N.C.

The groom’s parents hosted the rehearsal dinner at Daniels Memorial United Methodist Church.

Pre-wedding events for the couple included a miscellaneous shower at Daniels Memorial United Methodist Church given by the Friendship Circle and church family; a miscellaneous shower at Bethel Church of Goldsboro given by friends and family of the groom; a miscellaneous shower at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church in Kinston given by family of the bride; a brunch given by Julie Jackson and Meagan Bourgeois; a bachelorette weekend at Bayside Shores, Chocowinity, hosted by Megan Kornegay, Morgan Jackson and Erinn Latta; a bachelor’s cookout given by David Benton; and a bridesmaids’ brunch given by Marie Benton, Brittany Jones and Beverly Vinson.
