Kayla Brook Shivar of Seven Springs and Justin David Harris of Candler exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony July 23 at 6 p.m. at Union Baptist Church in Kinston, with Dr. Aubrey Jones officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Royce and Gwen Shivar of Seven Springs and the granddaughter of the late David and Nancy Shivar of Seven Springs and Benny and Carolyn Davis of Kinston.

She attended Spring Creek High School and North Carolina State University. She is employed as an agriculture teacher at Havelock High School.

The groom is the son of David and Beverly Harris of Candler and the grandson of the late Wendell Pearson and the Rev. Leone and Margie Pearson Keefe of Fayetteville, Doris Harris of Asheville and the late J.C. Harris of Wendell.

He attended Enka High School and North Carolina State University. He is employed as an agriculture teacher at West Craven High School.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore an ivory fit-and-flare gown with a scooped and ruched crystal taffeta empire bodice. The skirt was embellished with beaded lace appliqués and finished with a scalloped hem.

Jenna Adams of Sailsbury was matron of honor.

Bridesmaids were Brittany Chester of China Grove, Rebecca Craig of Raleigh, Imogene Davis of Hillsboro and Christin Hardy of Seven Springs.

David Harris was best man.

Groomsmen were Jason Harris of Candler, Kent Hawkins of Candler, Mark Hawkins of Bristol, Tenn., and Garrett Shivar of Seven Springs.

Ushers were Brett Capps of Smithfield, Joshua Davis of Deep Run and Benjamin Shumate and Luke Turner of Monroe.

Elizabeth Lynch was flower girl. Jacob Lynch was ringbearer.

Karen Hawkins directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Jennifer Capps. Heather Fisher and Julie Stainback distributed programs.

A program of wedding music was provided by Jason Cox, pianist, and Connor Hardy, vocalist.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Walnut Creek Country Club.

After their wedding trip to Costa Rica, the couple will reside in New Bern.

Events held before the wedding included a shower at Union Baptist Church in Kinston hosted by the bride’s family; a shower at Ridgeway Baptist Church in Candler hosted by the groom’s church and family; and a bridal luncheon July 22 at Our Picnic Basket Restaurant in Kinston hosted by the bride’s aunt.

A rehearsal dinner was held July 22 at Chef and the Farmer Restaurant in Kinston.
