Kelly - Pennell
Angela Nora Pennell of Wilmington and Craig Scott Kelly of Wilmington exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony June 4 at 11 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church in Wrightsville Beach, with Father James J. Kelly, great-uncle of the groom, and Father Joseph Vetter officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Thomas Herald and Deborah McLamb Pennell of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of Rose Ina McLamb and Edna Stafford of Goldsboro, the late Jasper McLamb, the late Linol Stafford and the late Troy Pennell.
She graduated with honors from Southern Wayne High School, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a bachelor’s degree in recreation therapy and East Carolina University with a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling. She is employed as a research compliance coordinator for the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
The groom is the son of Patricia A. Kelly of Doylestown, Pa., and the late James J. Kelly and the grandson of the late Florence and Raymond John and the late Joseph and Lucy Kelly, all of Philadelphia.
He graduated from Archbishop Wood High School and from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a bachelor’s degree in special education. He is employed as a case manager for New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
The bride was escorted by her father and presented in marriage by her parents.
She wore a strapless ivory gown with a sweetheart neckline. A gathered and ruched chiffon overlay flowed from a beaded empire waistline, which featured three rosettes with beading. The back of the gown had a chapel train and covered buttons.
Her headpiece was a cathedral-length veil with satin ivory trim.
The bride carried a bouquet of white hydrangea, yellow calla lilies, yellow roses, billy balls and white freesia hand-tied and wrapped with a lace handkerchief that belonged to her late maternal great-grandmother accented with a gold cross tie pin that her late maternal grandfather wore and entwined with the rosary of the groom’s late maternal grandmother.
Melissa M. McCullen was her cousin’s matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Jill M. Kelly, sister-in-law of the groom; Emily A. Edwards, cousin of the bride; and Lisa H. Cox, friend of the bride
James J. Kelly Jr., and Sean J. Kelly were their brother’s best men.
Groomsmen were Vincent A. Schino, friend of the groom, and Kieran P. Kelly, nephew and godson of the groom.
Joyce McLamb and Sara McLamb directed the wedding. Presiding at the register and distributing programs was Tracey M. Amodeo, cousin of the bride.
Joseph and Dorothy Kelly, uncle and aunt of the groom, were readers. Gift bearers were Lauren Langley and Doran Gause, friends of the bride.
A program of wedding music was provided by Angela Daughtry and David Heinzman, musicians, and Dorothy Kelly, aunt of the groom, vocalist.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception and dance at Bluewater Grill in Wrightsville Beach.
After their wedding trip to the Turks and Caicos, the couple will reside in Wilmington.
Events held before the wedding included a bridal brunch April 30 at Dudley Christian Church hosted by the ladies of the CWF; a miscellaneous shower May 1 hosted by family and friends of the bride; a lingerie luncheon May 21 at Sweet and Savory hosted by friends of the bride; a shower May 31 hosted by co-workers of the bride; and a bridesmaids luncheon June 3 at NoFo in Wilmington hosted by Jean Sutton, friend of the bride’s family.
The groom’s family hosted a rehearsal dinner at Hampton Inn Suites Landfall Center.
