Sarah Anne Smith of Raleigh and Michael Henry Rhodes of Raleigh exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony May 7 at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Raleigh, with the Very Rev. Daniel Oschwald presiding.

The bride is the daughter of Dwight Miller and Patricia Anne Smith of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of William E. and Dorothy Christine Smith of St. Pauls and Jack and Annie P. Schaefer of Riverside, Calif.

She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in biology and in 2010 with a Doctor of Pharmacy. She is employed by the University of North Carolina as a community pharmacy resident and clinical instructor. Post-residency she will be employed with Morrisville Pharmacy and Compounding as a clinical community pharmacist.

The groom is the son of Gary and Bonnie Rhodes of Princeton and the grandson of the late Henry E. Rhodes, Thelma Jackson, Rose M. Worley and the late Earl W. Worley of Princeton.

He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in economics in 2007 and North Carolina State University in 2000 with a master’s degree in business administration. He is employed by The Pantry Inc.. in Cary as a business systems analyst.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore a strapless silk gown with a sweetheart neckline and an asymmetrical ruched, drop waist bodice that led to a billowing skirt and cathedral train.

Her headpiece was a single-tiered cathedral veil trimmed with Swarovski crystals.

The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of pink peonies and white garden roses with a touch of Bells of Ireland and shamrock to honor her Irish heritage. It was finished with a handmade crystal rosary made by her maternal grandmother.

Katie Bickley of New York, N.Y., was the matron of honor.

Bridesmaids were friends Kristen Thompson, Mary Kalarickal and Ashley Worley of Raleigh, Nicole Watts of Charlottesville, Va., and Sarah Boyer of Waxhaw, friends.

Gary Rhodes was his son’s best man.

Groomsmen were Brad Rhodes of Raleigh, brother of the groom; Joseph Johnson of Princeton and Andrew C. Godwin of Kill Devil Hills, friends of the groom; and Jeffrey Smith Justin Smith of Raleigh, brothers of the bride.

Ava Capri Rhodes, niece of the groom, was the flower girl.

Presiding at the guest register was Hannah Grantham, cousin of the groom. Julia Elizabeth Worley, cousin of the groom, distributed programs.

Samuel Rhodes, uncle of the groom, and by Daniel Schaefer, uncle of the bride, were readers.

A program of wedding music was provided by Thomas Fielding, organist, and Cindy Fitzgerald, cantor.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a dinner and dance reception in the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton Hotel in Research Triangle Park.

After their wedding trip to St. Lucia, West Indies, the couple will reside in Cary.

Events held before the wedding included an engagement party Sept. 11 at Goose Creek Landing Waterfront hosted by the parents of the couple; a bridal shower March 6 at The Cupcake Shoppe in Raleigh hosted by Katie Bickley and the bridesmaids; a wedding shower March 20 at the home of Melissa Worley of Princeton hosted by family of the groom; a bachelorette night April 16 in Raleigh hosted by Katie Bickley; a bachelor night April 17 in Morehead City including an offshore fishing trip hosted by Gary Rhodes and Brad Rhodes; a lingerie shower May 1 at the home of Kristen Thompson of Raleigh hosted by Ms. Thompson and Debbie Snyder; and a pre-wedding celebration May 5 at Trail Irish Pub and Restaurant in Brier Creek hosted by the couple.

The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Capital City Club.
