McGuire-Parker
MOUNT OLIVE — Virginia Willene Parker of Wilmington and Shawn Donald McGuire of Wilmington exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony March 27 at 4 p.m. at Smith Chapel United Methodist Church, with Neal Wingfield officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Diana Freeman of Princeton and the late Clay Parker of Mount Olive and the granddaughter of the late P.R. and Merlean Parker of Mount Olive, Edward Freeman of Goldsboro and Doris Freeman and the late Boyce “Toad” Rains of Princeton.
She graduated from Princeton High School in 2004 and the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2008 with a middle grades education degree and a minor in English. She is employed as a sixth-grade teacher at Cedar Grove Middle School.
The groom is the son of Kenneth and Maria McGuire of Peoria, Ill., the grandson of James McGuire and Donald and Jean Iminski of Westland, Mich., and Robert and Marilyn Sheldon of Lewiston, Mich., and the great-grandson of Bernice Swathell of Lewiston, Mich.
He graduated from West Johnston High School in 2005 and attends the University of North Carolina Wilmington for a geology degree. He will pursue a master’s degree in the fall.
The bride was escorted by her brothers, Nathan Lassiter and Russell Parker, and given in marriage in memory of her father.
Tina Brewer was matron of honor, while Erin Holt was maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Jennifer Barefoot, Megan Wellons and Hannah Emery.
Chris McGuire was the best man.
Groomsmen were Cedric Randall, John Stancil, Nathan Lassiter Sr. and Russell Parker.
Ushers were Yancey Parker, Velburn Brewer Jr., Graham Parker and Zachary Holt.
Morgan and Madison Brewer, Riley McGuire and Isabelle Smith were flower girls. Nathan Lassiter Jr. was ringbearer.
Vicky Parker directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Laurie Freeborn. Rachel Freeborn distributed programs.
A program of wedding music was provided by Nissa Drum and John Stancil, vocalists, and David Bleaking, bagpiper.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Brick Village.
The couple will reside in Wilmington.
