Mary Frances Uzzell of Goldsboro and John Steven Felzer of Goldsboro exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church, with the Rev. Frederick W. Clarke officiating.

The bride is the daughter of James Casey Uzzell Jr. and Susan T. Uzzell and the granddaughter of John and Sophia Thomas and the late James and Louise Uzzell of Goldsboro.

She is a graduate of Mount Olive College with an undergraduate degree in mathematics and a graduate of East Carolina University with a master’s degree. She is employed as a math instructor at Wayne Community College.

The groom is the son of John Felzer and the late Deloris B. Felzer of Goldsboro and the grandson of the late Marion and Ruby Butler of Mount Olive and the late Frank and Nadine Felzer of Milwaukee, Wisc.

He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at at Wilmington with an undergraduate degree and a master’s degree in mathematics and a graduate of North Carolina State University with a Ph.D. in mathematics education. He is employed as department chairman of math, science and health/PE at Lenoir Community College.

The bride was escorted by her father and blessed in marriage by her parents.

She wore a white crystal satin strapless gown with a sweep train.

Her headpiece was a double-tiered veil edged with Swarovski crystals.

The bide carried a clutch bouquet of dark pink and orange roses wrapped in dark pink satin ribbon with beaded pearls.

Ceremonial witnesses were Meredith Mozingo, sister of the groom, and Matt Uzzell, brother of the bride.

Tyler Mozingo, nephew of the groom, was the groomsman.

Joyce Sauls directed the wedding, assisted by Ann Pittman. Presiding at the register was Sandra Bell.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the church fellowship hall. Celia Dean, Ann Pittman and Linda Thigpen served the wedding cake. Cathy Smith and Sharon Watkins poured punch.

The couple will take a wedding cruise to the eastern Caribbean. They will reside in Goldsboro.

Events held before the wedding included an engagement party July 11 at the family home hosted by the bride’s parents and Matt Uzzell, brother of the bride; a shower Sept. 17 hosted by the math department of Wayne Community College; a bridal shower Sept. 20 at First Christian Church parlor hosted by CWF ladies’ groups; and a dinner Oct. 16 at Southern Exposure in Faison hosted by the groom’s father.
