FREMONT — Lindsey Gale Newman and George Charles Stengel III of Goldsboro exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Oct. 18 at 5:30 p.m. at Fremont United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Judy Drye and the Rev. Robert Fletcher officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Michael Allen and Kathy Pate Newman of Fremont and the granddaughter of Henry Showalter and Ethel Showalter Newman of Denver, Pa., and Ladell Barnes and the late Leland Ray Pate of Fremont.

She graduated from Charles B. Aycock High School in 2005 and attended Wayne Community College. She is employed as a corporate trainer at Ham’s Restaurant.

The groom is the son of George Charles Stengel Jr. and Mary Margaret Stengel of Pompano Beach, Fla., and the grandson of the late George Charles and Jaqulin B. Stengel of New York, N.Y., and Kathleen Morse and the late John L. Morse of Pompano Beach.

He graduated from Eastern Wayne High School in 2006 and attended Wayne Community College. He is employed as a chef at Ham’s Restaurant.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore a white strapless A-line gown with a band of luster claret satin. The bodice was decorated with pearl and crystal beadwork. The back was accented with a corset-style lace-up tie and satin-covered buttons that flowed into a semi-cathedral-length train embellished with an all claret satin inset finished with matching embroidery.

Her headpiece was a veil of white tulle trimmed with white satin topped with a silver tiara.

The bride carried a bouquet of red calla lilies and white peonies with a black satin ribbon.

Shanna Ladell Corbett was her sister’s matron of honor, while Allison Courtney Newman, sister of the bride, was maid of honor.

Bridesmaids were Andrea Leigh Rex, Joy Ann Pearl Remegio Teng and Christian Caroline Potter.

Michael Richard Stengel was his brother’s best man.

Groomsmen were Jason Eugene Corbett, brother-in-law of the bride, Brian Michael Fitzmaurice, Daniel Carl Ratliff and Robert James Collard, friends of the groom.

Georgie Raymond Sohl, friend of the groom, was the usher.

Emily Gamble directed the wedding. Presiding at the register and distributing programs was Candace Vause.

A program of wedding music was provided by Robin Potter, friend of the bride, and Kimble Pate, uncle of the bride, vocalists, and Sylvia Overman, organist.

Following the ceremony, a dinner and dance reception was held in the church fellowship hall. Betty Mae Kearney, aunt of the bride, poured punch. Frances Pate, cousin of the bride, served the wedding cake.

The couple will take a wedding trip at a later date. They reside in Goldsboro.

Events held before the wedding included a dinner hosted by maternal aunts and cousins of the bride; a bachelorette party hosted by sisters of the bride; a bachelorette trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a bridesmaids’ luncheon at the home of the bride’s parents hosted by the bride’s parents; and a bachelor party hosted by friends of the groom.

The groom’s parents hosted a sit-down rehearsal dinner at Holiday Inn Express.
