Mrs. Fulkerson

Leah Michelle Yates and William Oliver Fulkerson of Durham exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony June 28 at 5:15 p.m. at the Durham Marriott, with Dr. Mary McClintock Fulkerson, mother of the groom, officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Tom and Mary Susan Heath of Goldsboro and Donnie R. and Pamela Yates of Angier and the granddaughter of Mary J. Simmons of Kenly, the late R.A. Simmons, Doris Yates of Beaufort and the late J.C. Yates.

She graduated from Eastern Wayne High School, East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science degree in math and Duke University with an M.A.T. degree. She is employed as a math teacher at Riverside High School in Durham.

The groom is the son of Drs. William J. and Mary McClintock Fulkerson of Hillsborough and the grandson of Oliver Wood McClintock of Hickory, the late Sarah Hope McClintock, the late W. J. Fulkerson and Ruth Raby Fulkerson of Hickory.

He graduated from Carolina Friends School in Durham, Boston University with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering and Duke University with an M.A.T. degree. He is employed as a math teacher at Riverside High School.

The bride was escorted by her father.

She wore a formal gown of ivory satin with a strapless neckline. The fitted bodice was embroidered at the waistline and accented with pearls and crystals. The full Cinderella skirt was accented with box pleats cascading into a cathedral train.

Her headpiece was a one-tier veil of silk illusion fashioned with a satin cord adorned with pearls and crystals.

Shelley Edwards of Greenville was maid of honor.

Bridesmaids were Elizabeth Yates and Meredith Yates, sisters of the bride; Hopie Fulkerson, sister of the groom; and Hannah Page and Rochelle Woodward of Durham.

Dr. William J. (Bill) Fulkerson, father of the groom, and Josh Littlejohn of Old Fort, friend of the groom, were best men.

Groomsmen were Josh Barton of Brooklyn, N.Y., Luke Bulino, Lucas Perkins and Adam Jones of Boston, Eddie Bauer of Hillsborough and Patrick Emerson of Oakland, Calif.

Emily Yates, niece of the bride, was the junior bridesmaid.

John Yates, nephew of the bride, was ringbearer.

Paulette Chetney of Durham directed the wedding. Mary Katherine Pittman and Leigh Ann Stutts, cousins of the bride, distributed programs.

A program of wedding music was provided by Charles Mooney of Wilmington, Jodeen Olquin-Tayler of Boulder, Colo., and Noah Sager of Durham.

Following the ceremony, a reception and dance were held at the Marriott Hotel and Convention Center in Durham.

After a wedding trip to Jamaica, the couple reside in Durham.

Events held before the wedding included a bachelorette party June 19 hosted by Rochelle Woodward; a bridal shower and brunch June 7 hosted by Pamela Yates, stepmother of the bride; a bridal luncheon May 31 at Evoo’s Restaurant in Raleigh hosted by Ann Pittman and Nancy Stutts, aunts of the bride; and a bridal shower hosted by Hannah Page, Meghan Hassel and Logan Garrison, friends of the bride.

The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at their home.
