Mattnay Deniece DeVaughn and Cedric Monte Barnes exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony July 14 at 3 p.m. at Woods Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, with Pastor Carlton Barnes officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Deacon David and Elderess Jane DeVaughn of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of Carniece DeVaughn, the late Samuel DeVaughn, the late Vernon Harvey Sr. and Naomi Harvey of Goldsboro, Pastor Ada R. Boyd and the late William Boyd.

She is a graduate of Eastern Wayne High School and attends Wayne Community College for a major in medical transcription. She is employed as a junior assistant manager at Dollar General Inc.

The groom is the son of Pastor Carlton and Elderess Sandra W. Barnes of Goldsboro and the grandson of Eva Barnes, the late Elijah Jones, Elderess Mildred Woodard and the late William Woodard of Goldsboro.

He is a graduate of Goldsboro High School. He is employed as manager at Dollar General Inc.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore a satin A-line gown of white chiffon over satin with beaded lace and beaded embroidery. It had a chapel train.

Her headpiece was a tiara of crystals and rhinestones attached to a ivory cathedral-length train enhanced with crystals and pearls.

She carried a clutch bouquet of blue and white hand-wrapped waxed roses.

Latrice DeVaughn was her sister’s matron of honor, while Tauyna Sheppard, friend of the bride, was maid of honor.

Bridesmaids were Tomeshia Barnes, sister-in-law of the groom; Felica Austin, cousin of the bride; Humeka Daniels, friend of the couple; and Shan’non DeVaughn, sister-in-law of the bride.

Darrick Barnes and Carlton Barnes were their brother’s best men.

Groomsmen were Shelton DeVaughn and T.J. DeVaughn, brothers of the bride; and Maurice Woodard, cousin of the groom.

Crystal Wooten, daughter of the bride, and Alyssa Sheppard, goddaughter of the couple, were junior bridesmaids. Jaron Woresky, son of the groom, and A.J. Johnson, nephew of the bride, were junior groomsmen.

Kayla Barnes, niece of the groom, and Daysia Brown, daughter of the bride, were flower girls. Devin Brown, son of the bride, was ringbearer.

Carol Smith, godmother of the bride, directed the wedding, assisted by Daytonia Barnes. Presiding at the register was Kenise Jones, friend of the couple. Daytona Barnes, sister-in-law of the groom, distributed programs.

A program of wedding music was provided by Leamon Parks, friend of the couple, pianist; Orlando Jones, Kim Harvell and Jeremy Alston, friends of the couple, vocalists; and Deacon Larry Newsome, friend of the couple, sound technician.

Following the ceremony, the couple’s parents held a reception at the church reception hall. Carolyn Williams, Judy Watkins and Annie Holt assisted.

After a wedding trip to Wrightville Beach and Wilmington, the couple reside in Goldsboro.

Events held before the wedding included a surprise bridal shower July 6 at Ryan’s Steakhouse hosted by Tomeshia Barnes and Latrice DeVaughn and a bridal brunch June 23 at the home of the bride’s parents hosted by Tauyna Sheppard.

The couple’s parents held a rehearsal dinner July 13 at the church reception hall.
