Parker - Griffin
DUDLEY — Wendy Suzanne Griffin of Cary and Jonathan David Parker of Cary exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony March 10 at 3 p.m. at Emmaus Baptist Church, with the Rev. John C. Sasser officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Wendell Torrence and Cheryl Pierce Griffin of Dudley and the granddaughter of the late Oliver Holmes and Emma Grady Griffin of Dudley and the late Cedric Dixon and Marguerite Payne Pierce of Pikeville.
She graduated with honors from Southern Wayne High School in 1995 and Campbell University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communication. She is employed as a partnerships assistant for North Carolina Baptist Men at the Baptist state convention of North Carolina.
The groom is the son of David Edward and Libby Allison Parker of Nashville and the grandson of Mildred Hollowell of New Bern, the late John Frances Parker of Rich Square and the late Percy Graham and Sallie Allen Allison of Cedar Grove.
He graduated with honors from Northern Nash High School in 1997, cum laude from Campbell University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in religion and Campbell University in 2004 with a Master of Divinity degree. He is employed as an assistant facilities director at the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore a formal gown of white chiffon over satin. The portrait neckline enhanced the beaded bodice that featured flowing chiffon sleeves. The A-line skirt flowed into a chapel-length train.
Her headpiece was a veil of silk illusion with a penciled edging attached to a tiara of irridescents and pearls.
The bride carried a hand-tied cascading bouquet of pink Gerber daisies and white calla lilies.
Kimberly Bohannon of Garner was her friend’s maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Emily Grice of Pikeville, sister of the bride; Tiffany Griffin of Calypso, sister-in-law of the bride; and Diane Gallagher of Briarwood, N.Y.; friend of the bride.
Joshua Parker of Greenville was his brother’s best man.
Groomsmen were Jason Leonard of Greenville, friend of the groom, and Jonathan Griffin of Calypso, brother of the bride.
Maya Gonzalez of Pikeville, niece of the bride, was flower girl. Matthew Jaen of Briarwood, friend of the couple, was ringbearer.
Brandy Sadler of Holly Springs, friend of the bride, directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Lori Rountree of Wilson, friend of the couple. Freddy Jaen of Briarwood, friend of the couple, distributed programs.
A program of wedding music was provided by Betty Wynne of Raleigh, friend of the couple, pianist, and Amanda Anderson of Faison, cousin of the bride, vocalist.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the church fellowship hall. Shonda Outlaw of Dudley and Donna Denham of Seven Springs were coordinators. Linda B. Pierce and Jewel Autry, aunts of the bride, served the wedding cake. Nora Sasser, friend of the couple, poured punch.
After a wedding trip to the Grand Cayman Islands and Ocho Rios, the couple reside in Cary.
Events held before the wedding included a gift-card shower Feb. 24 at the home of Tiffany Griffin hosted by Ms. Griffin; a miscellaneous shower Feb. 15 in Cary hosted by the staff of North Carolina Baptist Men; a couples’ shower Feb. 10 in Durham hosted by Mel, Cynthia and Melissa Knight; a miscellaneous shower Feb. 3 in Dudley hosted by Emmaus Baptist Church; and a miscellaneous shower Jan. 27 at the home of Joanne Honeycutt hosted by Ms. Honeycutt.
A rehearsal dinner was held March 9 in Emmaus Baptist Church fellowship hall. The couple chose this time to present gifts to their attendants.
