PIKEVILLE — Velvet Anne Waters and John Lee Tyndall exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Jan. 20 at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Franklin G. “Barry” Stallings officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Max Alvin and Sandra Southerland Waters of Albertson and the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alvin “Giant” Stroud, Elizabeth Kornegay Southerland and the late Lemuel “L.C.” Chancey Southerland of Albertson and Maxine Waters Taylor of Seven Springs.

She is a 1997 graduate of Mount Olive College. She is employed as an injury prevention coordinator at Lenoir Memorial Hospital.

The groom is the son of James Delano “J.D.” and Bessie Rich Tyndall of Pikeville and the grandson of the late Marvin and Rose Davis Tyndall of Stantonsburg and the late Garland and Ella Vail Rich of Goldsboro.

He is a 1993 graduate of Wayne Community College with degrees in poultry and livestock and agriculture science. He is employed as a farmer at Tyndall Farms.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore a formal A-line gown of white satin. The strapless neckline was adorned with beads and sequins trimmed in a claret color. The back bodice featured a corset lace-up closure with claret trim flowing down the semi-cathedral train.

Her headpiece was a tiara of rhinestones that extended into a two-tier veil of silk illusion fashioned with beaded crystal on the edge.

Star Waters Jackson and Dr. Candi Waters Batchelor of Albertson were their sister’s matrons of honor.

James Delano Tyndall was his son’s best man.

Groomsmen were Ashley Raymond Glover of Pikeville, friend of the groom; David Alan Jackson and Johnny Ray Batchelor Jr. of Albertson, brothers-in-law of the bride; and Jim Delano Tyndall of Stantonsburg, brother of the groom.

Katie Jo Tyndall of Stantonsburg, niece of the groom, and Hailey Carol Jackson of Albertson, niece of the bride, were junior bridesmaids.

Lillian Louise Jackson of Albertson, niece of the bride, was flower girl. Jamie Delano Tyndall of Stantonsburg, nephew of the groom, was ringbearer.

Laura Newsome directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Paula Fran Beyer. Katie Stallings distributed programs.

A program of wedding music was provided by Joan Lupton Allen, pianist; Karen Stallings, vocalist; and Renee Parnell Futrelle, organist.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the church fellowship hall.

After a wedding trip to the western Caribbean, the couple reside in Pikeville.

Events held before the wedding included a surprise Christmas shower in December hosted by the bride’s co-workers; a shower hosted by Pleasant Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church; and a shower at Harper-Southerland Church in Albertson hosted by the bride’s family.

A rehearsal dinner was held Jan. 19 in the church fellowship hall.
